Non-nicotine e-cigarette reduces need to smoke

Nicotine is addictive and that’s the reason why people can’t stop smoking tobacco cigarettes. Electronic cigarettes offer the opportunity to smoke nicotine without inhaling thousands of chemicals which are in a tobacco cigarette. This is a healthier way to handle your addiction. However, you can also choose to use an e-cigarette without any nicotine. According to the Dutch Research Institute RIVM even non-nicotine e-cigarettes reduce the need to smoke and lead to less withdraw symptoms.

Some smokers are able to totally quit smoking when using the electronic cigarette while others reduce their use of tobacco cigarettes. However, skeptics don’t see the e-cigarette to be a prove replacement: more research is needed for this.

According to the latest research e-cigarettes have benefits for smokers who want to quit nicotine as well. The research shows that there were 85 people: all smokers who tried to quit smoking for years, but failed. The people were divided in three groups. One group was handed e-cigarettes with nicotine, one without nicotine and one group was handed electronic cigarettes without nicotine, but thought they were getting e-cigarettes with nicotine. After one month of observation, families and friends were included to insure the participants were honest, the groups were evaluated.

The first group of 25 people who had smoked electronic cigarettes with nicotine was, off course, the most successful. 18 people hadn’t smoked any tobacco cigarette the whole month while the rest of the group reduced their smoking behavior to at least 50 percent. The 25 participant who had been smoking e-cigarettes without nicotine had more trouble keeping away from tobacco. Five people were able to totally quit smoking while the rest reduced their tobacco smoking till 60-80 percent. The group of 35 people who thought they were getting nicotine electronic cigarettes, but in fact didn’t get any nicotine for a month, had the most striking result. Fifteen participants succeeded to totally quit smoking while the rest reduced their tobacco cigarettes to 50 to 70 percent.

This results show that smokers are indeed addicted to nicotine, but also just to the feeling of smoking. Electronic cigarettes could be a helpful tool in helping people cut nicotine and tobacco.
